A straightforward table may need little intervention.
Readable selectable text, consistent columns, and simple rows make a good candidate for standard conversion. Someone still needs to compare the output with the source.
Small changes can change meaning.
In this fictional example, an item ID of 00042 becomes 42, or a printed 8.50 becomes 850. Both cells may look plausible until checked. Treat identifiers as text and verify decimal placement against the source.
Reviewed extraction is useful when exceptions matter.
Scans, repeated headers, split rows, multiple layouts, and unclear signs require deliberate handling. Define how missing fields and uncertainties will be recorded before the work starts.
Compare the deliverable, not just the export.
Ask whether the scope includes row-count checks, relevant total checks, identifier preservation, and an exception list. Exact-layout reconstruction and special calculations are different tasks.
